'The Bamboozle of Flim-Flam Opulence'
winner of the Irving S. Tick Award.
I am forever obsessed and strangely beguiled by the small in the world of art. From micro-sculptures to Russian lacquer boxes, I see something ever halting, stark and venerable in the smallest of objects. Somehow, in my mind the scale itself adds to the splendor of it. As I've enjoyed the preciousness of the small, I have pondered a question I have yet to answer. "Is it possible for a human being to make a gem?" Nature creates gems, but can a man create something that is so genuine, perfect and utterly precious to anyone that this object qualifies as a gem? I have sought this.
